Rome is dubbed by many as “Eternal City”, where ones will often feel history comes alive, simply because the streets of Rome are akin to a living museum. Now the question is how do you as a parent to get your young ones interested in visiting historical ruins and museums?
Not that difficult as you think though, just pick those exciting spots that have spooky tunnels, mummies, old castles, and in no time you’ll have a thrilling adventure on your hands for them!
Here is what I think you could do to have an enjoyable, memorable and great family getaway in Rome. Start with a breathtaking ride up the glass elevator to the Vittoriano Monument. This is where your kids can catch Rome’s city sights through a telescope. Attractions that kids will love include the Vatican Museum where there are mummies and cool animal statues, Explora where kids can get hands-on with the exhibits, Castel Sant’ Angelo, an old castle showcasing knight paraphernalia, and the spooky tunnels of the Catacombs and Cappuccin Crypt. Also don’t forget to get your kids to stick their hand into the mouth of Bocca della Verity at the Church of Santa Maria. What is so special about it? To what I know, it represents the legendary of the “Mouth of Truth”, and is believed to close on liars! To satisfy your kids’ thirst for some adrenalin-pumping action, head to the big water park called Hydromania, which has a giant wave pool that’s known as “the fastest slide in Italy”. Still have time and not feeling tired? You could catch a one-hour train to the renowned Leaning Tower of Pisa, where tourists and visitors alike often amazed at the architectural wonder.
Smart great getaway family travel tips to Rome, Italy.
My experience is that it’s very easy to get carried away by the culture, art and history in Rome. Hence, remember to keep your trips short and include time for kiddie naps. Be prepared, you will need to walk a lot, therefore it is advisable to keep snacks on hand to keep your little one’s energy levels up. It is also good to know most tourist attractions have entrance fees.
