Any ideas where is Copenhagen’s best known and loved tourist attractions for the whole family, where children can play and adults can enjoy the beautiful setting?

My answer to you is the Tivoli Gardens. It is situated on what was once part of the fortifications that surrounded Copenhagen. Tivoli was turned into an amusement park in 1941 by the then King Christian VIII to provide the masses with suitable entertainment and fun.

Amusements in Tivoli Gardens

Based on statistical figure of some 5,000,000 visitors a year, a figure which is more than any other tourist attractions in the country showed that Tivoli Gardens is still the best known and loved tourist attractions in Denmark. In fact, both young and old alike like Tivoli Gardens; I believe that is one of the many reasons that make it open until midnight for weekdays and until 1 am morning at weekends. There are many cafés or restaurants in the park, some of which are among the most stylish in the city that for sure will keep the adults happy. On the other hand, there are all sorts of traditional fairground amusements such as roller coasters and merry-go-rounds which make Tivoli Gardens very popular among children. In addition to that, you can find an open-air stage with daily shows and an internationally renowned concert hall as well.

Little Mermaid in the harbour

Little Mermaid in the harbour, is the symbol of Copenhagen.

What attracted me is that Tivoli Gardens are planted with thousands of brightly flowering summer bedding plants, that allows people like you and me stroll along paths beneath those old, shady trees. At night, the lake in particular looks wonderful as the park is lit with thousands of coloured lights that reflect off every surface, added to that there are firework displays on every weekend in summer. However, during winter, the lake is frozen and you will notice that there are scores of skaters in brightly coloured winter hats and coats take to the ice.

What else is there to see? Well, the Tycho Brahe Planetarium, Christiania free city, Christiansborg, the Nyhavn quaysides and the not to be missed statue of the Little Mermaid in the harbor.

Do you think Tivoli Gardens is a perfect place for the whole family, where children can play while adults can enjoy the beautiful setting?
